Owned by and standing at Crowe Performance Horses

Dr Khris Crowe, DVM MS

Dr. Khris Crowe is the Red River Reproduction Center and Crowe Performance Horses attending veterinarian.  She is a graduate of the University Of Missouri College of Veterinary Medicine. Upon graduation she was employed by Tom Chauncey Arabians, Scottsdale, AZ as a resident veterinarian then as head veterinarian and manager of the breeding facility and ranch that was home to over 800 world class Arabian horses. After 9 years in Arizona she attended the University of Illinois where she completed a surgery residency and obtained a Post-Doctoral Masters Degree and was awarded the American College of Veterinary Surgeons National Award for Equine Research.

In the mid-1990’s Dr. Crowe conducted research funded by the AQHA at the Scripps Institute in La Jolla, California and the University of Georgia.

While running her successful private equine practice that she developed in  Athens, Georgia, Dr. Crowe was voted 2001 Georgia Equine Veterinarian Of The Year. She made this accomplishment all while continuing to publish articles on a variety of topics, such as equine reproduction, emergency medicine, surgery, dentistry and general care.

Dr. Khris Crowe is also famous for being the resident veterinarian at Babcock Ranch. She oversaw the breeding of Smart Chic Olena, as well as other great stallions, that impacted the horse industry in a positive way. Dr. Khris Crowe has often said that Smart Chic Olena was one of the most unique equine personalities she had ever come in contact with.

“Intelligence is sometimes hard to measure in a horse,” Khris explained. “But Chic was incredibly intuitive. He had an active mind and he knew his environment. Subtle things affected him, for example, he wanted to be the first horse to the breeding shed. He also wanted to have the first and the last carrot. If I forget and gave another horse the last carrot and then went back to the barn a couple of hours later, Chic would not take a carrot from me.”

Khris believed Chic’s personality and intelligence helped him move fluidly between the disciplines of cutting and reining, excelling in both.

Recently, Dr. Crowe has worked in North Texas and Southern Oklahoma with some of the performance horse industries top trainers and breeding facilities. She has foaled out well over 1,500 mares and performed hundreds of successful embryo transfers. Dr. Crowe currently owns and operates Red River Equine Veterinary Services and conducts a large mobile equine practice in North Texas and Southern Oklahoma. She is also the proud owner, with her husband Carlton Crowe, of FM Cottonwood. FM Cottonwood is out of Sonita Lena Chick, an own daughter of Smart Chic Olena. Clearly Dr. Crowe is a fan of this bloodline, and in her way is helping to continue the championship career of the great legendary horse, Smart Chic Olena, with her own stallion FM Cottonwood.
